Papaloukas, the all-time Euroleague steals and assists leader, stepped into the spotlight as an Olympiacos player in 00/01, leading the Greek A1 in assists that season. They parted ways in summer 2002, with Papaloukas joining Russian powerhouse CSKA Moscow, which was coached by Serbian Dusan Ivkovic back then. In Moscow, Papaloukas slowly developed into one of the game’s premium point guards, and with the arrival of Ettore Messina came Euroleague success. Papaloukas was outstanding in both the 2006 and 2007 final fours, earning the reputation of a clutch player. However, despite winning the Euroleague a second time, his performances in 07/08 indicated that he might be on the decline already, and when Olympiacos, the club he had left in conflict in 2002, made him a 3-years, 3.500.000€ net/year offer in summer 2008, Papaloukas simply couldn’t refuse.
