Characteristics
The club from Badalona, a suburb of Barcelona, is one of the best basketball schools in European basketball. They have been producing excellent young players way before Rudy Fernandez and Ricky Rubio came through the youth ranks. Badalona products currently playing in ACB are Raul Lopez, Sergi Vidal and Alex Mumbru among others. Still, the club is able to compete both domestically and on the international level with a comparably limited budget. Their youngest coup was winning the 07/08 ULEB-Cup title, carried by their sensational tandem Ricky Rubio/Rudy Fernandez. Joventut’s biggest success in history is the 1994 European Cup championship. Badalona is a 4-time Spanish league and 8-time Copa del Rey champion. They have never been relegated from the Spanish first league. Main Sponsor DKV reportedly contributes 1.450.000€ per season. The contract expires in 2010.

Headcoach: Sito Alonso [Spain]
Sito Alonso took over from the great Aito Reneses [now Unicaja] in summer 2008 after being an assistant coach under the latter for three seasons from 1995 to 1998. Before that, the still young [born 1975] Alonso served as youth coach for Helios Zaragoza and Monzon Huesca, as assistant for Cosehisa Monzon, and as headcoach for both Monzon and Joventut’s farm team CB Prat. Playing-style-wise, Alonso basically continued the work of Aito Reneses.

Playing Style

– They push the ball on every opportunity, try to make plays early on the shotclock, put immeadiate pressure on the defense
– Do not heasitate to jack up quick jumpshots on the fastbreak and on secondary offense
– Use pressure defense, gamble for steals, use traps for 40 minutes
– Compensate that high energy style of defense with a large 11- or 12-man-rotation
– Spread the floor with four shooters in most cases; are not shy to use a small-ball-unit with natural small forwards Luka Bogdanovic or Pere Tomas at the power forward spot
